

Lauren Ceballos
Editor in Chief
Lauren Ceballos is a senior from Upland, CA who currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The USD Vista. Lauren found her way to The Vista as a contributor her first semester of college, later joining the staff her second semester as the Feature Editor. During her sophomore year, Ceballos became the Sports Editor until her junior year as the Associate Editor. When Lauren is not in the newsroom, she is spending time with her sorority sisters in Kappa Alpha Theta, with University Ministry or supporting Torero Athletics. In her free time, Lauren likes to line dance, go to the gym and spend time with family and friends.

Anjali Dalal-Whelan
Associate Editor
Anjali Dalal-Whelan is a senior majoring in communication and history from Minneapolis Minnesota. She has been working at The Vista since her first year of college, starting as an Assistant News Editor, then working as the News Editor and Feature Editor. Outside of the newsroom, Anjali is on the Executive Board of the International Buddy Program and does research on journalism. In her free time, she likes to travel, read, watercolor and run.

Emma Pirhala
Managing Editor
Emma Pirhala, originally from McLean, Virginia, is a junior majoring in economics with a minor in nonprofit management. Now serving as the Managing Editor, Emma started at The USD Vista as a first-year Assistant News Editor, then moving to News Editor. Emma also works with the College of Arts and Sciences Marketing team and the Children’s Advocacy Institute within the law school. In the little time that Emma doesn’t spend in the newsroom, she likes to go to pilates classes at the Wellness Center, worry about post-grad plans and read memoirs about her favorite rockers.

Lara Dominique Solante
Copy Editor
Lara serves as a Copy Editor for The USD Vista—her second year in this role. She is from Carson, California. She is a senior, majoring in English and minoring in Business Administration. Her favorite genre is fantasy, which sparked her love for Dungeons & Dragons. Her favorite movie is unfortunately “Call Me by Your Name,” and one of her favorite songs is also, unfortunately, “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. In the future, she is planning to teach English and foster a love for writing in her students. She is excited to enjoy her last year at USD, exploring new coffee shops and restaurants around San Diego.

Caden Haynor
News Editor
Caden Haynor is a sophomore majoring in political science with a minor in English. Caden plans to pursue a career in criminal law after college to feed his passion for U.S. law and justice. Following a semester as an Assistant News Editor, he is excited to spend the year as News Editor. Apart from the Vista, Caden plays piano for the jazz houseband, plays intramural soccer, and participates in Outdoor Adventures. In his free time, Caden loves being outdoors, running on the beach, biking, and skateboarding.

David Cook
Opinion Editor
David Cook is a senior from Petaluma, California, majoring in Communication Studies with minors in Marketing and Psychology. This is his first year on staff at The USD Vista, where he is excited to write as Opinion Editor. Outside the newsroom, he’s involved in Greek life as a member of Phi Gamma Delta and as Vice President of Recruitment on the Interfraternity Council. You can usually find David working on his golf game, jumping in the ocean, or finding a new way to soak up the San Diego sun. David looks forward to bringing his voice to The Vista and making the most of his final year at USD.

Amelie Sedlack

Amelie Sedlack is a sophomore from San Jose majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. This is her first semester with the Vista and she is excited to meet new people and write meaningful stories. Amelie hopes to finish and publish her novel one day and possibly also pursue editing in the future. When not in class, Amelie enjoys writing, reading, knitting, painting, calling her family and taking photos of nature around campus and San Diego.

Riley Rains
Arts & Culture Editor
Riley Rains is a sophomore at USD majoring in English with a minor in Classical Studies. After working as the Sports editor during her freshman year, Riley is excited to start as the Arts and Culture editor. Outside of the Vista she is involved in Kappa Alpha Theta, USD Recreation, and USD Frisbee Club. Riley is excited to begin a career in teaching, as she believes that education is one of the most noble pursuits in today’s day in age. When she isn’t reading, writing, or facetiming her siblings, Riley enjoys playing guitar, thrifting, and scrapbooking.

Priya cooper
Sports Editor
Priya Cooper is a senior at USD majoring in Sociology with a minor in Economics. Priya hopes to attend law school after completing undergrad and has an interest in working in criminal or poverty law. Priya is currently the Sports Editor and previously worked as an assistant sports editor. She loves watching and playing sports, being from Boston, is a die-hard Celtics fan and enjoys interviewing different athletes and learning about their experiences. In her free time, Priya can be found running, at the beach, hanging out with her friends, or spending time with her dogs.

Hailey Howell

Hailey Howell is a senior at USD studying Communication with minors in marketing and visual arts. The Palm Desert native started at The USD Vista as a Social Media Manager, before taking on the role of Feature Editor and is now working as the Photo Editor. Hailey has been passionate about photography from a young age and is also interested in film and graphic design. When she’s not enjoying a good movie, you can find her outside volunteering with USD’s Surfrider club, trying new places to eat or spending time at the beach.

Alex Kueter
Assistant Opinion Editor
Alex Kueter is a senior at USD majoring in biology and minoring in theatre. Besides writing for The Vista, Alex works as a veterinary assistant at West Coast Animal Hospital, and a leader at Partners Therapeutic Horsemanship which offers riding for children with special needs. Alex also does research in the Fleming-Davies lab on NPV or the “zombie virus” in caterpillars here at USD. Alex enjoys walking through campus with service dogs in training Cal and Ula, helping in the theatre department, and playing pickleball.

Maximiliano Acosta
Assistant Sports Editor
Maximiliano Acosta is a sophomore at USD studying International Relations and Economics. Having been a student-athlete all his life, it was natural for him to want to gravitate towards the sports section of the USD Vista. His passion for sports has only gotten stronger as he started college. He spends his time playing recreational basketball, pickleball and club soccer. He hopes to share and highlight all of USD’s different athletes and sports in a perspective of both an athlete and a fan. He also likes being involved in everything else USD has to offer, some including the USD Ministry, College Corps, the Scholastic Assistant program and the Pre-Law Fraternity, Phi Delta Phi.

Alissa Abramovich

Alissa Abramovich is a senior majoring in Business Analytics with a minor in Visual Arts. She is from Orange County, California. Starting off as an Assistant Art Director she is now in her second year of being an Art Director. When not in the news room she works as a marketing assistant at the USD auxiliary services. For fun she loves to try new recipes, hang out with friends and travel as much as possible. She always loves to get food recs so make sure to reach out and send some over.
