     USD football hosted Morehead State on Oct. 28 for their homecoming game. The Toreros went into the game with a 1-3 conference record, 1-6 overall. Morehead approached the game with a conference record of 2-2 and an overall record of 3-4. USD beat Morehead State with a score of 17-11. USD senior Isaiah Williams scored the first touchdown and USD junior Aidan Lehman secured the kick in the first quarter.

     In the third quarter, USD first-year Dom Nankil scored the Toreros’ final touchdown of the game and Lehman topped it off with the kick once again. In the fourth quarter Lehman scored a 19 yard field goal, totaling USD’s score of 17 points which was also influenced by USD graduate student Amir Wallace’s interception.

    USD volleyball welcomed Loyola Marymount University on Thursday, Oct. 26. The game started off strong but Toreros lost after their persistent first set. USD junior and middle blocker Haylee Stoner, as well as senior middle blocker Leyla Blackwell, graduate student outside hitter Amber Stirvins, senior outside hitter Kylie Pries and first-year outside hitter Nemo Beach all had crucial kills that helped throughout the game. USD sophomore defensive specialist Olivia Bennett set a career high of 17 digs.

     The team played at Saint Mary’s on Oct. 28, winning with a 3-0 sweep. In the game, Bennett had a team high of 11 digs. Toreros are set to play at Santa Clara on Thursday, Nov. 2 for their next game.

     USD women’s soccer hosted Pepperdine on Friday, Oct. 27 where Toreros lost 7-0. This week USD sophomore forward Josefine Schlichting was posted on the @wccsports Instagram for the top five plays of the week and her home-turf goal against St. Mary’s on Oct. 18. The team’s next game is at Santa Clara on Wednesday, Nov. 1, where Toreros will play for the last time in the Torero stadium for the 2023 season.

     USD men’s soccer tied with LMU on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at home with a score of 0-0. In the 24th minute, USD senior goalkeeper Luis Ludosan had a sliding save to keep the tie, causing his fourth shutout of

the season out of ten total. Toreros played at Santa Clara on Saturday Oct. 28, winning with a score of 2-1 with goals scored by USD sophomore Cesar Bahena and USD fifth- year Mason Tunbridge. This game secured USD men’s soccer their most wins since 2019. The Toreros’ next game will be on Saturday Nov. 4 against Pacific at Torero Stadium.

     The men’s rowing team’s next competition will be on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the San Diego Fall Classic in Mission Bay.

     USD women’s rowing most recently competed on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Head of the American. The team’s next competition is on Monday, Nov. 13, at the San Diego Fall Classic.

     USD men’s and women’s cross country competed at the WCC Championship on Oct. 28 in Malibu, CA. The men’s team was led by USD senior Will Stefanou for the first time this season with a 55th place finish followed by USD senior Russell Gokemeijer in 59th place. The women’s team was led by USD junior Daniella Hubble, finishing in 42nd place overall. Redshirt junior Aryam Jaimes and USD graduate student Gianna Sbarabaro placed 45th and 48th respectively, resulting in the first time women Toreros had three runners in the top 50 since Feb. 2021.

     USD men’s tennis competed at the SoCal Intercollegiates on Thursday Oct. 26-29 in Los Angeles, CA. USD senior Blake Kasday, USD sophomore Christian Kuehne and USD redshirt sophomore Nikhil Niranjan went far in their singles matches, advancing Niranjan to round of 16 singles and to the quarterfinals with Kasday in doubles. The men’s and women’s teams will play their next matches in the ITA Fall Nationals hosted on Wednesday Nov. 1-5 and on Friday Nov. 3-5 at home.

     USD Swim and Dive began their season on Sept. 15 with the Pentathlon. On Friday, Oct. 13, Toreros hosted Utah Tech. Seven Toreros earned second- place finishes in their events: first-year Amber Paul in the 100 Yard Butterfly, first-year Skylar Bruner in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, and 500 Yard Freestyle, first- year Milan Bever in the 200 Yard Freestyle, first-year Claire Sheerin in the 200 Yard IM, first- year Elise Sullivan in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, sophomore Anna Vermeulen in the 200 Yard Butterfly and senior Jayne Brandt in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Junior Jane Riehs won both diving events, earning 18 points. The team hosted their Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 28. Torero’s next meet will be on Saturday Nov. 4 against LMU at the Sports Center Pool.

     USD golf began competing on Sept. 25 in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. The team finished 14 out of 20. Toreros were +17, totaling 881 strokes in the tournament. USD senior Andi Xu tied for 31st, with an even-par 216. USD graduate student Craig Ronne was T-48, first-year Ryan Abuan was T-68, junior Carson Enright was T-72 and sophomore Ryan Plodkowski was at T-82. The team attended the Cal Poly Invitational on Monday, Oct. 30-31.

USD softball played on Oct. 28 against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The team’s next fall ball game is against San Diego Mesa on Nov. 3.

     Toreros rankings and scores are changing throughout the end of some seasons for this year. Torero athletes have been consistently putting in their best effort. USD roots for its athletes throughout their upcoming games.
